Fruiting Body Resupinate, smooth, thin, cream to pale yellow to pale brown, margin woolly when young Flesh Cream, firm Smell Indistinct Season All year Distribution Rarely recorded Habitat On dead wood from deciduous trees Microscopic Features Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, strongly amyloid (7-8) x (4-6) µm2 (see also the notes section). Basidia 4 spored, narrowly clavate, with basal clamp. Hyphal system monomitic, hyphae 2 to 3.5 µm wide, clamped. Gloeocystidia tubular, smooth, sinuous, with basal clamp. Paraphysoid hyphae present. Edibility Inedible Notes The collection shown had spores measuring (11.5-13) x (6.5-7) µm2 consistent with Megalocystidium leucoxanthum. A DNA sample was amplified by Eric Janke and sequenced by the BMS. The results showed a very good match to other sequences for Megalocystidium luridum. The Genbank locus is OR907163.
